St. Barnabas House has a New Look

Tuesday March 06, 2007, Panama City

After the last 2006 residents of St. Barnabas House completed their stay and left the shelter in October, the Transitional Shelter Program was temporarily suspended in order to do some repairs, renovations and reburishing. New flooring was installed throughout the large 8-bedroom facility from a previous grant received from the Community Services Foundation. A simple request went out to local churches and organizations asking if they might want to “adopt a room” in the house, providing the paint, labor and other materials necessary to give each bedroom, bath or common area new life. Response was quickly received from several churches of various denominations, a Lion’s Club group, and the Junior Leadership Bay.
St. Barnabas House officially reopened on March 5th and now offers a facility that is warm and inviting to families needing a place to call home for several months while they save their resources, strengthen their life skills, and become more self-sufficient. Because of the generous donations of time, labor and supplies from these church and community groups, St. Barnabas House not only provides a safe and stable environment to these children and families, but also a warm and welcoming place to “hang their hats”.
Catholic Charities wishes to thank the following for their generous and unselfish participation in this worthwhile project:

  • Messiah Lutheran
  • Highland Park Baptist
  • Primitive Baptist
  • First Presbyterian of Lynn Haven
  • Parkway Lion’s Club
  • Junior Leadership Bay
Additionally thanks to these individuals for their time and expertise as well:
  • Jim Fantaski (what a Gem!)
  • Bob & Barb Malaski (our expert landscaping “snowbirds”)
  • Ray Love (exterior painter)
A Grand Opening and Rededication is planned for May 24th from 1-3:30 p.m.
