<blurb>Over 200 people fed at the Catholic Charities in Ft. Walton</blurb>
    <body>November 5, 2009

Dear Friend of Catholic Charities:

Yesterday over 200 people were fed with a cookout in our parking lot. This was sponsored by WPSM Radio station 91.1 and the Emerald Coast Conference. One lady who came to work the line said that she works 26 hours for a local grocery story but Catholic Charities has provided weekly groceries for a year. She was off today and decided to serve others because of her gratitude to Catholic Charities. It was a very fulfilling and rewarding day. Please view the NW Florida Daily News story and pictures at the link below. God bless you for your support.

SANDESTIN | People bought tickets, dressed up in fine clothes, dined and danced at the Hilton Sandestin Nov. 1 at the Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida&#8217;s Fort Walton Beach regional office gala. Meanwhile, somewhere in the area, a 17-year-old single mother of two was thanking God for each and every one of them.
The gala, attended by 250 patrons, reached the agency&#8217;s fundraising goal. It featured the music of Jones and Company and was highlighted by a video presentation of the work of the agency. One of the stories told was of that young mother and the special place Catholic Charities has earned in her heart and her prayers.
One chilly afternoon recently, as regional director Carolyn Ketchel was leaving the agency&#8217;s office, she noticed the young woman writing a note to place on the windshield of her car. As Ketchel approached, the young woman told her that she had to leave the broken-down car there and would be back in four days to take it to be fixed. Ketchel explained that it wasn&#8217;t possible for the car to remain in the lot. The young woman burst into tears and explained her situation. She was out of money and had been forced to take out a restraining order against the children&#8217;s father. Ketchel calmed her fears and reassured her that the reason the car wasn&#8217;t going to remain in the lot was because the agency would pay to have it towed and repaired that same day. She then asked the young woman to come in to the office to get some groceries and supplies for the children.

    <blurb>Announcement:
Ft. Walton Beach is in need of non-perishable food items for their pantry. </blurb>
<body>Ft. Walton's food pantry is getting slim. The organization has had more demand than they have had resources. Catholic Charities asks that the community assist in whatever way they can. If each person or organization that views this news message does a little we can assist the many who come into the office each day.

Please view the Ft. Walton page for ideas on non-perishable items to donate or call if you have any questions.

<blurb>Carolyn Ketchel the Regional Director of the Ft. Walton Beach Catholic Charities proves yet again that God is Good!</blurb>
<body>When I arrived in September 2007 we served food to less than 1000 individuals. In fact we served 1,191 from October to December, 2,198 from January to March and in May we served 3,128 individuals just food! You can see how our numbers are increasing.

Under a miracle story- a patient walked in 2 weeks ago asking us for $5,000 for emergency gallbladder surgery. She was Caucasian and in her 40&#8217;s and the surgery center needed this payment up front. After a few calls, a surgeon agreed to make all the arrangements pro bono! God is good.

Have a good weekend. I love my work!

<blurb>Another great turn out for the Golf Tournament hosted by the Fort Walton Beach location of Catholic Charities on April 20, 2008. </blurb>
<body>On Sunday April 20th, 74 players had an afternoon of fun, fellowship and food at the annual Catholic Charities Golf Tounament held at Adara Golf Course in Crestview, Florida. The weather &#8220;designed by God&#8221; was beautiful. The entire tournament was organized by Board Members and volunteers.

At the nineteen hole, players and family members feasted on a buffet prepared by Sophie Burnett. The food included barbecue, turkey and ham. Almost everyone won a door prices and an auction included two new sets of golf clubs, a vacation with a condominium at Sandestin and a foursome at Burnt Pines private Country Club.

This is a popular event and many participants make it a lovely event. A lot of work goes on behind the scene to make this a seamless day. A special thanks to the Steve Maleszewski, Steve Burnett, Tom Maleszewski, Carmen Lusisi, Jr., Vern and Marge Quast, Jerry Pohlen, Ray Feiler, Tim Kersanac, Ed Eich, Bob Webb and Nancy and Tom Weidenhamer.

<blurb>New Paint, new floors, and new hope for Okaloosa and Walton county residents.</blurb>
<body>It is a new day at Catholic Charities FWB. We were in need of a make-over and the community came together to help make this happen.

Since November, Catholic Charties has seen an increasing about of need in this community. From rental assistant, to help with utility bills, food, financial medical, gas vouchers and even bus tickets to go back home or for some homeless to get to the closest VA Clinic.

For the holidays good fortune came and we were able to help 130 families with Christmas gifts and food. Donations came pouring in and this helped many families in need. The holidays are over, but the assitance is still greatly needed, probably even more so since the job market is down and wages are at miniumn.

With a new look, our goal is to continue to contribute to our community through the Emergency Assistance program. In addition, we are looking forward to reviving our counseling and adoption programs.

Our job is not community service but serving this community. Together we can make a difference.

<blurb>Miracles happen when you least expect it.</blurb>
<body>In October we had a client that came in for assistance with utilities, rent and food. She had to depend upon others to get her to places because her car had broken and was unfixable. As we all know without a car now days it prevents us from many things as well as getting back and forth to work. As we were talking with the client and helping with what we could, we received a phone call that someone wanted to donate a van. They wanted to deliver the car to us immediately. Our clients prays were answered. The couple brought the car to our office and we turned it over to our client immediately. Our client now had a vehicle to go to work and get her the transportation that she needed to help herself.</body>
