Catholic Charities Fort Walton Beach is hosting their 2nd Annual Starfish Charity Gala, scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort – Grand Ballroom.
This year, we are very excited to feature a very special guest speaker, Immaculee Ilibagizia, international speaker and author of, Left to Tell; Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Holocaust, released in 2006 and it quickly became a New York Times Best Seller. Immaculee’s life was transformed dramatically during the 1994 Rwanda genocide where she and seven other women spent 91 days huddled silently together in the cramp bathroom of a local pastor’s house. Immaculee entered the bathroom a vibrant 115- pounds university student with a loving family – she emerged weighting just 65 pounds to find her entire family had been brutally murdered (with the exception of one brother who was studying out of the country). Immaculee found peace in prayers and began to pray from the time she opened her eyes in the morning to the times she closed her eyes at night. Through prayers, she eventually found it possible, and in fact imperative, to forgive her tormentors and her family’s murderers.
